While the University makes every effort to keep licensure requirements up to date, it does not guarantee that the information listed here is current or accurate. Each student is responsible for obtaining the most up-to-date licensure information for each state.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The SBU master\u2019s program curriculum meets licensure or certification requirements in the following states: AK, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, GA, HI, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, ME, MD, MA, MI, MN, MS, MO, MT, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NY, NC, ND, OH, OR, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, UT, VT, VA, WV, WI, WY.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>AK (Alaska)Education<\/strong>: Complete a course at a school recognized by the\u00a0Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (ACAHM) or an institution with equivalent standards as determined by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). Foreign or out-of-state applicants can qualify if their education is equivalent and recognized by NCCAOM.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination<\/strong>: Possess a diplomate of acupuncture from NCCAOM, evidenced by either a certificate or an official letter from NCCAOM confirming qualification.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Requirements<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>Submit an application with two letters of reference for moral character, a transcript, verification of other held acupuncture licenses, and applicable fees.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AR (Arkansas)Education<\/strong>: Applicants must complete a program\u00a0in acupuncture and Oriental medicine that meets standards set by the Accreditation\u00a0Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (ACAHM) or an equivalent\u00a0approved by the board.\u00a0The program must include at least 800 hours of clinical practice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination<\/strong>: Applicants must pass a board-approved, nationally recognized examination in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, such as those provided by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Additional Documentation<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>Applicants need to submit proof of Clean Needle Technique certification, affidavits attesting to good character from two reputable acupuncturists, and any disciplinary records from other states if they hold other healthcare licenses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AZ (Arizona)Education<\/strong>: Applicants must have completed an\u00a0acupuncture\u00a0program with\u00a0at least 1,850 hours of training, including 800 clinical hours, from anaccredited institution.<strong>Examination<\/strong>: certification from the National Certification Commission\u00a0for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) is required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clean Needle Technique (CNT)<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>Completion of a CNT course is mandatory, ensuring that practitioners maintain high standards of patient safety.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CA (California)Education:<\/strong>\u00a0An applicant\u00a0must graduate from a California Acupuncture Board approved school.\u00a0\u00a0Students entering an acupuncture and Oriental medicine educational training\u00a0program\u00a0prior\u00a0to January 1, 2005 must complete 2,348 hours(1,548 theoretical hours and 800 clinical hours) in the following areas:\u00a0Traditional Chinese Medicine (660 hours); Clinical (800 hours); Western\u00a0Sciences (558 hours); Herbal (300 hours) and Ethics and Practice Management (30\u00a0hours).<\/p>\n<p>Students entering an acupuncture and Oriental medicine educational training program\u00a0after\u00a0January 1, 2005 must complete 3,000 hours (2,050 theoretical hours and 950 clinical hours) in the following areas:\u00a0 Basic Sciences (350 hours); Oriental Medicine Principals, Theories and Treatment (1,255 hours [includes 450 hours in herbs]); Clinical Medicine, Patient Assessment and Diagnosis (240 hours); Case<\/p>\n<p>Management (90 hours); Practice Management (45 hours); Public Health (40 hours); Professional Development (30 hours) and Clinical Practice (950 hours).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Written Exam<\/strong>:\u00a0An applicant must pass a written examination developed and administered by the\u00a0California Acupuncture Board.\u00a0 The examination covers five content areas that reflect the current job competencies in the practice of acupuncture in California as follows:\u00a0Patient Assessment \u2013 29%; Developing a Diagnostic Impression \u2013 20%; Providing Acupuncture Treatment \u2013 29%; Prescribing Herbal Medicinal \u2013 17%; and Regulations for Public Health and Safety \u2013 9%.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CO (Colorado)Education<\/strong>: Applicants need a degree from an\u00a0accredited acupuncture program, covering topics such as acupuncture techniques,\u00a0safety practices, and diagnostic skills.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination<\/strong>: An active NCCAOM certification in acupuncture is required. This certification involves passing exams and demonstrating<\/p>\n<p>competence in acupuncture practice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CT(Connecticut)Education<\/strong>: To qualify, applicants need at least 60 semester hours from\u00a0an accredited postsecondary institution. This is in addition to completing an\u00a0acupuncture program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture\u00a0and Herbal Medicine (ACAHM).\u00a0Programs\u00a0should have a minimum of 1,905 hours of study, including at least 660 clinical\u00a0hours if completed after October 1, 2012.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examinations<\/strong>: Passing the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) examination is required. Additionally, completion of a Clean Needle Technique (CNT) course through the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (CCAHM) is mandatory.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DC (Washington, D.C)Education<\/strong>:\u00a0To qualify, applicants\u00a0must complete either three years\u00a0****of formal instruction in acupuncture (including 500 clinical hours) or two\u00a0years of instruction paired with 1,500 hours of supervised apprenticeship.\u00a0Alternatively, if they have at least three years of acupuncture experience\u00a0prior to October 1999, they may also qualify if they treated a minimum of 100\u00a0patients per year with 500 visits annually.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>An active NCCAOM certification in acupuncture is required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DE (Delaware)Education:<\/strong>\u00a0Graduation\/education must be obtained\u00a0from a formal education program that has met the standards of the ACAHM. At the\u00a0time of your graduation, your school must either be accredited by ACAHM or in\u00a0candidacy status for accreditation by ACAHM.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>An active NCCAOM certification in acupuncture is required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>GA (Georgia)Education<\/strong>: To qualify, applicants must complete a program in\u00a0acupuncture from a school accredited by the Accreditation Commission for<\/p>\n<p>Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (ACAHM) or an equivalent board-approved program.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clinical Experience<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>If applicants have less than one year of postgraduate clinical experience, you must complete at least one year of supervised clinical practice under a licensed acupuncturist who has at least four years of active clinical practice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination<\/strong>: While Georgia does not mandate NCCAOM certification, it is beneficial. Completing the NCCAOM exams, which cover topics like<\/p>\n<p>acupuncture, Oriental medicine, and biomedicine, can enhance your credibility and career prospects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>HI (Hawaii)Education<\/strong>: To\u00a0qualify, applicants must complete a formal acupuncture program accredited by a\u00a0U.S. Department of Education-recognized body or an international program with\u00a0equivalent accreditation. The program should include a minimum of 2,175 hours\u00a0of\u00a0academic (1,515 hours)\u00a0and clinical training (660 hours).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination:<\/strong>\u00a0applicants must pass the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) exam. If you have already passed this exam in another state, the results may be transferred directly to the Hawaii Board.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ID (Idaho)Education<\/strong>: Applicants must complete a master\u2019s degree\u00a0from an ACAOM-accredited acupuncture program. This program should include both\u00a0theoretical and practical coursework.\u00a0The program must consist of at least 1,725 hours in\u00a0academic (1,000 hours) and clinical training (500 hours).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination<\/strong>: Applicants must pass the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) exams, which cover areas such as the foundations of Oriental medicine, acupuncture point location, and biomedicine<\/p>\n<p><strong>IL (Illinois)\u00a0Education:<\/strong>\u00a0For applications submitted on or\u00a0after January 1, 2020, proof of status as a Diplomate of Acupuncture (3-year\u00a0program) or Diplomate of Oriental Medicine (4-year program) with NCCAOM, or a\u00a0substantial equivalent approved by the Division<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination:<\/strong>\u00a0Applicant must have\u00a0NCCAOM\u00a0certification in acupuncture, pass a clean needle technique course, have good moral character, and be at least 18 years of age.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IN (Indiana)Education<\/strong>: Acupuncture college program that is\u00a0approved by\u00a0ACAHM.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination<\/strong>: Current active status as a diplomate in acupuncture from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM)<\/p>\n<p><strong>IA (Iowa)Education:<\/strong>\u00a0Applicants must complete a three-year\u00a0post-secondary acupuncture program accredited by the Accreditation Commission\u00a0for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) or an equivalent program that\u00a0meets ACAHM standards. There are no undergraduate requirements for this path**.**<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination:<\/strong>\u00a0Applicants must hold an active NCCAOM (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) certification in acupuncture. This includes passing the NCCAOM\u2019s written exam covering acupuncture theory, clean needle technique, and other core areas of practice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>KS (Kansas)Education:<\/strong>\u00a0Complete an accredited acupuncture program\u00a0that includes both theoretical coursework and hands-on clinical practice. The\u00a0program should meet the standards set by the Accreditation Commission for\u00a0Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAHM) or be recognized as equivalent by the\u00a0Kansas Board of Healing Arts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination:<\/strong>\u00a0National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) exams, which include modules on<\/p>\n<p>Foundations of Oriental Medicine, Acupuncture with Point Location, Biomedicine, and Chinese Herbology.<\/p>\n<p><strong>KY (Kentucky)Education<\/strong>: Graduate from a program accredited by the\u00a0Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) or\u00a0another recognized institution. The\u00a0program should include at least 1,800 hours of training, with 300 hours\u00a0of clinical practice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination<\/strong>: Pass the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) exam. This includes assessments in acupuncture and possibly Chinese herbal medicine, depending on the program you follow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LA (Louisiana)Education<\/strong>: Applicants must complete a program\u00a0in acupuncture from an accredited institution, typically covering 36 months of\u00a0training. The program should meet the standards set by recognized accreditation\u00a0bodies such as the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine\u00a0(ACAHM).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination:<\/strong>\u00a0Successful completion of the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) exams is required. This includes the biomedicine section and acupuncture, which tests knowledge in foundational and clinical aspects of traditional Chinese medicine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ME (Maine)Education:<\/strong>\u00a0Complete at least\u00a01,000 hours of classroom instruction in\u00a0acupuncture and related subjects, along with a minimum of 300 hours of clinical\u00a0training.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination<\/strong>: Pass the NCCAOM (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) exam.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MD (Maryland)Education:<\/strong>\u00a0You must complete a program in acupuncture\u00a0and Oriental medicine that is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for\u00a0Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) or an equivalent program approved by\u00a0the Maryland Higher Education Commission. The\u00a0program must include at least 1,800 hours of training,\u00a0with 300 of those hours dedicated to clinical practice**.**<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination:<\/strong>\u00a0Applicants need to pass the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) examination to demonstrate proficiency. This certification is a key step before applying for licensure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MA (Massachusetts)Education:<\/strong>\u00a0Must have successfully completed 2\u00a0years of training in one or more acupuncture schools, shall have graduated from\u00a0a\u00a0Committee on Acupuncture-approved schools;\u00a0must have a minimum of 1,905 didactic training and 100\u00a0hours of\u00a0Committee on Acupuncture-approved herbal education.\u00a0 An\u00a0applicant must document 100 hours of clinic with sole responsibility for\u00a0diagnosis and treatment of patients within the required 1,905 hours of\u00a0acupuncture education.\u00a0 If the school is in the U.S., District of\u00a0Columbia, Puerto Rico or a U.S. territory, it must be accredited by, or in\u00a0candidacy status with,\u00a0ACAHM.<\/p>\n<p>Basic Herbology Requirement: The applicant must have received a minimum of\u00a030 hours of herbal medicine training\u00a0from a Committee on Acupuncture approved school or Committee on Acupuncture approved program in order to be licensed.<\/p>\n<p>Herbology Certification Requirements**:**\u00a0As of January 1, 2009, an applicant who plans to employ herbal therapy (patent orraw) in his or her practice must submit evidence of completion of one of the following courses of education in herbology:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Completionof an Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine(ACAOM) accredited or candidate status oriental medicine program with a\u00a0minimum of 1,905 hours ofclinical\/didactic training, of which at least 660 hours were traininghours in herbs and at least 210 of those were clinical hours inacupuncture and herbs; and<\/li>\n<li>Certification by NCCAOM in Chinese Herbology.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Examination<\/strong>: Applicants must pass the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) examination. Additionally, a Clean Needle Technique (CNT) certification is required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MI (Michigan)Education:<\/strong>\u00a0The applicant shall establish that he\u00a0or she has completed a minimum of 1,245 hours of systematic acupuncture\u00a0education by submitting his or her education records, training records, or\u00a0other verifiable evidence of the applicant\u2019s education and training that\u00a0included live lectures, demonstrations, and supervised clinical training\u00a0specific to acupuncture.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination:<\/strong>\u00a0Submit proof of current certification conferred by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine<\/p>\n<p>(NCCAOM). Other certifications may be reviewed for substantial equivalency to NCCAOM certification.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MN (Minnesota)Education:<\/strong>\u00a0Complete an accredited acupuncture\u00a0program. The program must be approved by the Accreditation Commission for\u00a0Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (ACAHM) or another recognized accreditation\u00a0body.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Certification<\/strong>:\u00a0National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) exams<\/p>\n<p><strong>MS (Mississippi)Education<\/strong>:\u00a0 Provide proof, directly from the\u00a0institution, of successful completion of an educational program for\u00a0acupuncturists that are in candidacy status or accredited by ACAOM, NCCAOM or\u00a0its predecessor or successor agency that is at least three (3) years in duration\u00a0and includes a supervised clinical internship to ensure that applicants with an\u00a0education outside the US are recognized because of the NCCAOM review process\u00a0for foreign applicants.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination<\/strong>:\u00a0The NCCAOM exams must be current, and if taken after January 2007, include the Foundations of Oriental Medicine, Acupuncture (with point location), and Biomedicine modules.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MO (Missouri)Education:<\/strong>\u00a0At least\u00a01725 hours of study in Acupuncture and Oriental medicine\u00a0from an ACAHM accredited program.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination:<\/strong>\u00a0Certification by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) is required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MT (Montana)Education<\/strong>:\u00a0An applicant must be a graduate of an\u00a0approved school of acupuncture that is approved by the\u00a0ACAHM\u00a0and\u00a0offers a course of\u00a0at\u00a0least 1,000 hours of entry-level training\u00a0in recognized branches of\u00a0acupuncture or equivalent curriculum approved by the board.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination<\/strong>:\u00a0NCCAOM\u00a0written exam.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NE (Nebraska)Education<\/strong>: Has graduated from a formal, full-time\u00a0acupuncture program at a university, college, or school of acupuncture approved\u00a0by the board which includes at least\u00a01,725 hours of entry-level acupuncture education. The education must consist\u00a0of a minimum of 1,000 didactic and 500 clinical hours.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination:<\/strong>\u00a0NCCAOM\u00a0written exam in acupuncture.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NH (New Hampshire)Education<\/strong>:\u00a0An applicant shall possess a\u00a0baccalaureate, registered nurse, or physician\u2019s assistant degree from an\u00a0accredited institution.<\/p>\n<p>An applicant shall have completed acupuncture education from an ACAOM accredited US school.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination<\/strong>:\u00a0Current, active\u00a0NCCAOM\u00a0certification through examination or Credentials Documentation Review is required plus completion of a clean needle technique course approved by the\u00a0NCCAOM.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NJ (New Jersey)Education:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Baccalaureate degree from a\u00a0school within the United States and graduate from an acupuncture program, given\u00a0by a school accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and\u00a0Oriental Medicine, the Commission on Recognition of Post-Secondary\u00a0Accreditation, or the United States Department of Education.-OR-Obtain the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree from a school in another country and complete either:i)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 An acupuncture program, which meets the\u00a0requirements of the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental\u00a0Medicine, the Commission on Recognition of Post-Secondary Accreditation, or the\u00a0United States Department of Education.-OR-ii)\u00a0\u00a0 An acupuncture program that is part of the\u00a0baccalaureate degree program or its equivalent in another country.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination<\/strong>:\u00a0The\u00a0NCCAOM\u00a0exam in English.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NM (New Mexico)Education<\/strong>:\u00a0Completion of 2,400 clock hours of\u00a0classes including a minimum of 1,100 hours of didactic education in acupuncture\u00a0and Oriental medicine to include 450 didactic herbology hours and a minimum of\u00a0900 hours of supervised clinical practice with 400 hours of actual treatment by\u00a0the student.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination:<\/strong>\u00a0The written examinations approved by the board shall be:<\/p>\n<p>(1) the\u00a0NCCAOM\u00a0Foundations of Oriental Medicine\u00a0module(2) the\u00a0NCCAOM\u00a0Acupuncture module(3) the\u00a0NCCAOM\u00a0Chinese Herbology module(4) the\u00a0NCCAOM\u00a0Biomedicine module(5) the\u00a0NCCAOM\u00a0approved clean needle technique class(6) the board approved and board administered jurisprudence examination\u00a0covering the act and the rules.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reciprocity\/Endorsement:<\/strong>\u00a0Regulations are currently being adopted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NY (New York)Formal Education Requirements<\/strong>:\u00a0Satisfactory\u00a0completion of an approved professional\u00a0acupuncture program registered by the New York State\u00a0Education Department as licensure qualifying or accredited by the Accreditation\u00a0Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (ACAHM)\u00a0or another\u00a0accrediting agency accepted by the Department as a reliable authority, or the\u00a0equivalent.<\/p>\n<p>To be considered equivalent, a program must consist of a minimum of 4,050 hours of classroom instruction, supervised clinical experience, and out-of-classroom or out-of-clinic study assignments. Each hour of classroom instruction must require two hours of out-of-classroom study<\/p>\n<p>assignments and each hour of supervised clinical experience must require one-half hour of clinic study assignments. As part of the 4,050 hours, the program must include:<\/p>\n<p>at least 200 classroom instructional hours in the biosciences including anatomy, physiology and pathology;<\/p>\n<p>at least 600 classroom instructional hours in acupuncture including acupuncture principles; acupuncture channel and point theory;<\/p>\n<p>acupuncture physiology; acupuncture pathology; acupuncture clinical examination and diagnosis; acupuncture techniques; acupuncture treatment principles; and sterilization and precautions; and<\/p>\n<p>at least 650 hours of supervised clinical acupuncture experience in general health problems to include acupuncture diagnosis; therapeutic treatment planning; acupuncture needling technique; moxibustion; electroacupuncture; pre- and post-treatment instruction; contraindications and precautions; treatment of emergencies; when to refer to appropriate health professionals; and acupuncture hygiene.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination<\/strong>:\u00a0The\u00a0NCCAOM\u00a0written examination.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NC (North Carolina)Education<\/strong>:\u00a0Successful completion of a three-year\u00a0postgraduate program at the acupuncture college accredited by, or in candidacy\u00a0status with\u00a0ACAHM, or if outside the United States, the\u00a0California\u00a0Acupuncture Committee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination:<\/strong>\u00a0The\u00a0NCCAOM\u00a0written exam.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ND (North Dakota)Education:<\/strong>\u00a0Completion of an approved accredited\u00a0acupuncture program, which requires, at a minimum, a 4-year, full time program\u00a0of academic and clinical study plus a six-month full time clinical internship\u00a0at an approved internship site.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination:<\/strong>\u00a0All applicants must pass the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) board certification exams before submitting a license application.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OH (Ohio)Education<\/strong>:\u00a0A master\u2019s degree from an ACAHM-accredited\u00a0school.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination:<\/strong>\u00a0NCCAOM certification.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PA (Pennsylvania)Education<\/strong>:\u00a0Has successfully completed an\u00a0acupuncture program which includes a course in needle sterilization techniques.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0If the acupuncture education program is taken within the United States, the applicant shall complete 2 academic years of acupuncture training and shall complete 2 academic years of a college level educational program.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0If the educational program is taken outside of the United States, an applicant shall graduate from a college with a program of study including Oriental medicine and document 300 class hours of study in acupuncture training.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination:<\/strong>\u00a0The\u00a0NCCAOM\u00a0certification is required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RI (Rhode Island)Education:<\/strong>\u00a0Has completed an accredited\u00a0program of not less than one\u00a0thousand nine hundred five (1,905) hours of training\u00a0and has received a\u00a0certificate or diploma from an institute approved by the Accreditation\u00a0Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, or any accrediting body\u00a0approved by the department, according to the provisions of this chapter;\u00a0provided, that this subdivision does not apply to anyone licensed to practice\u00a0under chapter 37 of this title who is qualified to take and pass the test by\u00a0the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, or\u00a0any credentialing body meeting the standards for professional certification\u00a0programs approved by the department;\u00a0Has completed a clinical internship training that is\u00a0designated as appropriate by the Accreditation ACAHM or any credentialing body\u00a0meeting the standards for professional certification programs approved by the\u00a0department; and<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination:<\/strong>\u00a0The\u00a0NCCAOM\u00a0certification is required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SC (South Carolina)Education: G<\/strong>raduate from a program accredited by the\u00a0ACAHM. Requires a minimum of\u00a01,725\u00a0hours of education, including both classroom instruction and clinical\u00a0practice.<\/p>\n<p>The Acupuncture Act of South Carolina set the entry-level standard to the level of the NCCAOM Diplomate for any individual to practice<\/p>\n<p>acupuncture in South Carolina.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination:<\/strong>\u00a0The\u00a0NCCAOM\u00a0certification is required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TN (Tennessee)Education<\/strong>:\u00a0Successful completion of a three-year\u00a0postsecondary training program or acupuncture college that is\u00a0ACAHM\u00a0accredited\u00a0or in candidacy status, or which meets\u00a0ACAHM\u00a0standards.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination:<\/strong>\u00a0Current, active\u00a0NCCAOM\u00a0certification<\/p>\n<p><strong>TX (Texas)Education<\/strong>:\u00a0Graduation from a board-approved\u00a0school of not less than six terms in residence of four months each for a total\u00a0of not less than 1,800 instructional hours, with at least 2 terms in residence\u00a0in supervised patient treatment.\u00a0 The course of study must include\u00a0anatomy-histology, bacteriology, physiology, symptomatology, pathology,\u00a0meridian and point locations, hygiene, and public health.\u00a0 The rules\u00a0require that a school in the United States be\u00a0ACAHM\u00a0accredited or in\u00a0candidacy status and that foreign schools must be substantially equivalent to\u00a0a\u00a0ACAHM\u00a0approved school.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination:<\/strong>\u00a0Applicant has taken and passed, within three attempts, each component of the full\u00a0National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM)\u00a0examination.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UT (Utah)Education<\/strong>:\u00a0Graduation from\u00a0an\u00a0ACAHM\u00a0accredited program or a program of study that meets NCCAOM\u00a0exam eligibility requirements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination<\/strong>: Current and active\u00a0NCCAOM\u00a0certification.<\/p>\n<p><strong>VT (Vermont)Education<\/strong>:\u00a0Completion of a three-year\u00a0comprehensive curriculum providing a minimum of\u00a01725 hours of entry-level acupuncture education. The\u00a0program must include a minimum of 800 hours of supervised clinical practice in\u00a0which there must be a minimum of 250 student performed treatments. There also should be a letter from your\u00a0school\/training program verifying that you have had training or instruction in\u00a0the subjects of acupuncture, moxibustion, herbology, Oriental physiology,\u00a0Oriental pathology, Oriental diagnosis, tuina or qigong, biology, chemistry or\u00a0biochemistry, anatomy, Western physiology, Western pathology, Western\u00a0diagnosis, pharmacology, laboratory and\u00a0radiology.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination<\/strong>: The\u00a0NCCAOM\u00a0certification is required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WA (Washington)Education<\/strong>:\u00a0Successfully completed a course,\u00a0approved by the secretary, of didactic training in basic sciences and\u00a0acupuncture and Eastern medicine over a minimum period of two academic years.\u00a0\u00a0The training shall include such subjects as anatomy, physiology, microbiology,\u00a0biochemistry, pathology,\u00a0hygiene,\u00a0and a survey of western clinical sciences. The basic science classes must be\u00a0equivalent to those offered at the collegiate level.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examination<\/strong>: The\u00a0NCCAOM\u00a0certification is required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DULA has not decided\u00a0that its\u00a0master\u2019s program curriculum meets the state\u2019s educational requirements for\u00a0licensure or certification in the following states, as the following states do\u00a0not have an acupuncture practice Act: AL, OK, SD.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>AL (Alabama)<\/strong>(1) Acupuncture is deemed by the Medical Licensure\u00a0Commission to be an experimental procedure of which the safety and medical\u00a0effectiveness has not been established. The Commission therefore determines\u00a0that while acupuncture practice by licensed physicians should not be absolutely\u00a0prohibited, some safeguards are necessary to ensure that the public is not\u00a0harmed or victimized by unprofessional practices, such as the unskilled or\u00a0uninformed application of acupuncture treatment, or unfounded claims of effectiveness.<\/p>\n<p>(2) The Commission therefore determines that it shall be deemed unprofessional conduct, and grounds for action against the license of<\/p>\n<p>any physician pursuant to\u00a0Code of Ala. 1975, \u00a734-24-360(a), for a physician to offer or administer acupuncture treatment except in compliance<\/p>\n<p>with the requirements set forth by the Federal Food and Drug Administration in Federal Register Vol. 88, No. 46, p 6419 (March 9, 1973). In administering this requirement, the Commission establishes the following criteria, which must be adhered to by physicians licensed by the Commission:<\/p>\n<p>(a) All acupuncture devices in this state must be labeled properly according to applicable Federal Food and Drug requirements.<\/p>\n<p>(b) A physician must secure a patient\u2019s informed consent according to the guidelines established at 21 Code of Federal Regulations, \u00a7130.37, and no claims of therapeutic or diagnostic effectiveness may be made by a physician.<\/p>\n<p>(3) The Commission hereby announces its intention to require that physicians wishing to investigate and experiment with the use of acupuncture treatment must comply fully with the above stated requirements of this Commission and with the requirement of the Federal Food and Drug Administration cited herein.|<\/p>\n<p>**OK (Oklahoma)<strong>There are no official requirements<\/strong>SD (South Dakota)**36-39-5.
